The term talisman originates from the ancient Greek word teleo which means "to initiate" or "to magically charge". The eighth-leaved flower shown on this talisman is a symbol of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty. Amongst other things Aphrodite was the reason for the Trojan War: In order to ensure her victory she bribed Paris, Prince of Troy, who was the arbitrator at the beauty contest between her and the goddesses Hera and Athena, with the promise of the most beautiful woman of the world as his bride. Paris chose beautiful Helen, wife of Greek King Menelaus, as a reward and so the following abduction of Helen lead to the start of the Trojan War. Hence, this charm was worn in former times to awake love and passion and to strengthen a consisting partnership.

This pendant is made of copper and brass with a framing made of pewter. The framing of this piece of jewelry is made of pewter, since pewter is a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance.
