In old Egypt the scarab was a symbol of the magic powers of the rising sun and stood for renewal and rebirth. Possessing a nearly round shape and a shining, golden shimmering color on its shards after all this beetle is similar to the form and the shine of the sun itself.

This pendant is made of pewter and has been enhanced by overlaying the pewter core with a silver coating and embellishing details of the design in gold - furthermore one prominent glass crystal was added. Pewter is a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition.
