This pendant shows Odin's sword Gram, that he stuck into the trunk of an oak standing in the hall of King Völsung and that could only be pulled from the tree by a true hero. Decorated with the bind runes of Odin, the highest God of the Vikings, this sword should protect and patronize the body, soul and health and also the house of its wearer and keep him from harm while traveling. Only Sigmund, the son of Völsung, could retrieve the sword and used the magic weapon during his various adventures.

This pendant is made of polished pewter. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition.
